Little Bustard Time

April 20, 2017 by Photo Logistics

The Little Bustard is a seriously threatened bird, we are really worried about their conservation, and it will worth a specific post that we will write latter. Now we just will focus on saying that we have this year hides ready from now in Montgai.

Our authorisation allows setting two hides in four different leks. So we can offer a maximum of eight seats for this amazing bird. Our hides are individual facilities and from there you can get photos with different lenses from 300 mm to 500 mm, according with your preferences in terms of composition.

In this time the Little Bustard male is displaying in its lek.  It uses to sing before the sunrise and until 10:00, more or less. Usually it hits the floor with its feet and then it jump, this is for sure the most photogenic behaviour it can show, but not the only one. The wing flapping with the first light in the day, the singing male or even the bird in the luxury green field is something that you will not forget easily.

So, we collect you in Montgai square at the agreed hour (around 6:00) and drive you to the hide. The picking up hour is around 10:00. Then you can go for a breakfast and some rest before facing the afternoon hides. The Little Bustard season uses to be from mid-April to mid-May.

What more can I do when there? The Little Bustard hides are the kick off in Montgai set of hides. In this season in the afternoon you can try our fun drinking pool hide for two people or some of our Little Owl hides. Also available are the Bee-eaters or the Hoopoe. Usually the Stone Curlew is also available at this time, but better ask for it before booking, just in case.  There are other possibilities not too far from there, but this is a matter for a different post.

About the Genet hide in daylight.

April 8, 2017 by Photo Logistics

First of all: getting photos on a carnivorous mammal from a hide is not easy at all. Do it in daylight with no help of flashes is even more difficult. But some people are stubborn enough for getting whatever they wish, and we have Ivan with us.

So, we can offer a Genet photography service in an afternoon session. But, what warranty do I have that this elusive animal will come to the date? People knowing us use to heard that we never say for sure that a bird or mammal will come. But in this case our experience says that the odds are higher in springtime and autumn. Even so, for this shy beautiful mammal we propose a different way to procedure: the price of the single use is 180 € (120 €/person for two), the photographer will pay 100 (90 €/person for two) at his/her meeting with our guide. In case of successful session 80 more euros (30 €/person for two) will be paid for complete the final price. In case of failed session the photographer can repeat the session the next day and he/she only complete the final price in case that the Genet finally comes. It means that he/she will pay nothing the second day in case that the session fails.  A third attempt could be done for a unique price of 50 €.  We have though that this is the most honest way to procedure with an animal like this. Of course, like always and like all our hides, we will inform you about the rate of success of the last sessions in this hide before your visit.

And here we go again!

April 6, 2017 by Photo Logistics

Springtime is here and you wish to take your camera and go to the field again, right? We know that and so we are working as hard as we can for getting ready your hides. Roger is already in Montgai and he has ready some hides for Little Bustard, Little Owl and our gorgeous Waterhole. We had some rain here in Montgai and the luxury green fields gives a bright background and some wild flowers are blossoming right now. This amazing spectacle will be played with different birds until the beginning of July.

At Claret (40 minutes to Montgai), we have set our hides for Rock Thrush and Blue Rock Trush. Also here from this week is the little and beautiful Black-eared Wheatear. In some days a couple of drinking pools will be working in this area, too.

In a few days we will speak about our facilities for different Vultures. Egyptians are already here and Black Vulture, Lammegeier and other scavengers worth a special post.

These hides will be at field before than usual, for allowing combine Little Owl in the afternoon with Marsh Harrier in the morning in the close area of Estany d’Ivars. A complete March day before we kick off the season in Montgai  at the beginning  of April with the first Little Bustard jumping and singing in their leks.

Getting ready a new spring season at Ebro Delta

March 13, 2017 by Photo Logistics

Winter time is finishing and we are about to come in the busiest season in the year. Since we wish to offer you the widest range of birds and habitats we have set a hide in one of the best places for taking photos on waterfowl in Southern Europe: the Ebro Delta. Here we have an agreement with SEO/Birdlife for developing hides in their Riet Vell property. So, with Sara Sánchez (Riet Vell coordinator) and two of their volunteers we set a mud platform for a Common Tern nest in front of our hide, and two different perches thought out different herons and other birds visiting the lagoon. So, a number of birds will be available in addition to Purple Swamphen, Flamingo, different ducks, Little Grebe, etc.

It is our pleasure to collaborate with SEO/Birdlife in this project and try to help to raise this organic rice fields through our photographic hides incomes.
