Photography and observation safari in Sierra de Andújar, one-of-a-kind Lynx kittens

Iberian lynx safari that also includes ibex, red deer and fallow deer in Andújar (Sierra Morena) very focused on the observation of Iberian lynx kittens at the best time of the year.

After the rutting period, usually between December and January, males and females separate and begin to hunt and rest alone again. During gestation, the female looks for a lair. She does not dig for herself, but takes advantage of cavities between rocks or logs with holes large enough to put herself and the kittens that will be born. Gestation lasts between 63 and 67 days, so around March, April or early May (depending on the time of fertilization) the babies are born. There are usually between two and three kittens. In the early stages of life, until the kittens are able to move by themselves, the female changes their lair every few months to avoid infection and predation.

The kittens do not open their eyes until they are fifteen days old. And they feed only on milk almost two months after birth. Gradually, the mother introduces prey to their diet and they stop drinking milk at about seventy-five days of age.

If to the pleasure of contemplating an Iberian lynx we add the kittens of the year, the experience is unforgettable.  And the best time for this is April. And the modality in which we will have more probabilities of success is the safari. In this case the hides are not the best alternative.

Our suggestion is a one morning tour through the places that our expert guide in Sierra de Andújar will have controlled days before the activity. We will pick you up at the meeting point and with an all-terrain vehicle (essential in this area) we will take you in groups between one and four people to make observations and photography of lynx, trying to include kittens. We will return to the meeting point at lunchtime. The same operation can be considered for an afternoon session.

We will combine more fauna of the spring of Sierra de Andújar such as deer, fallow deer, mountain goat and birds of prey such as Iberian imperial eagle, golden eagle, black vulture and common vulture, etc.. The distances, in or working with hide, will depend on the luck we have at each moment, although the fact of having our expert guide gives you more numbers to have wildlife at a distance and very oriented with respect to the light.
